We had our first baby shower yesterday. Well, the first one was supposed to be the day after Christmas in North Dakota but, due to a blizzard it was cancelled.
Two of my girlfriends got together and decided to throw us another one. They did a fantastic job and made it all come together pretty quick since we didn't know if I would be on bedrest or not.
I did have to lay through parts of the shower but, we made it work. It was so fun to finally get to celebrate with some of the special women in my life. My mom even came from Wahpeton, ND and "surprised" me. We think way to much alike and I started suspecting she was coming the morning of the shower. I said it out loud but, then decided I shouldn't sound so confident in case she really wasn't coming.....next thing I knew, she came around the corner. It was wonderful to share that experience with my mom. Of course as her child, she has had a hard time sitting by and watching Randy and I struggle on our journey, so it was almost like it was her baby shower too! :) We both were overjoyed to celebrate.
Joining me for the shower were one of Randy's cousins through marriage and her daughter, my brother's wife and her mom, and 3 of my girlfriends. Randy's mom, sister, aunt and Gramma were there in spirit. Everyone spoiled us and definitely spread the love. Anita, a former flight attendant friend of mine, and Heidi, a friend of mine from my hometown that lives here now, were the hostesses with the mostest. They both spent so much time and energy to make every little detail so special. I would recommend hiring them for event planning! Heidi is the first non-family member to make my FAVORITE cake!! Pistachio...for those of you that don't know it. I highly encourage you to try it! It is usually only served at my birthday if I am lucky. The girls
made a wonderful spread of food and had some beautiful fresh flowers for us. Anita and Heidi just made everything perfect. They even got us a laundry basket FULL of goods for the babies.

Everyone was so generous and made us feel so grateful. Randy picked me up from the shower so he got to enjoy some of the yummy food and good conversation. He then got all the gifts loaded and unloaded at home. We reopened all the gifts together and both of us just feel so blessed to know that these kids are surrounded by love, kindness and generosity. As "real" as everything is, Randy felt that yesterday made it even more real to him. I love watching him evolve as a Dad with each new step we take.
39 days at the most until it is REAL!! No more just hearing me talk about how my belly feels or being on the outside looking in so to speak. The Dad is about to jump head first into baby world! He better buckle up! Maybe I should too.......good thing we have had the best experience a couple in our shoes could have. We have thanked Max and Mia, our 4yr old nephew and niece, for being such good teachers to us. They in return tell us they love our babies and will teach them to be nice and walk. Ahhhh the honesty of children.....
