Tuesday March 16th update

Today was a really good day. Randy and I had the day with one another and got to enjoy some "kangaroo" time with the babies. I will post a couple of pictures right after this. It was the most amazing experience so far. The smell of my babies was intoxicating. LOVE THEM!!!! I could have held them all day long and I am glad I know the opportunity will be there often in the near future.

Auntie Annette, my brother's wife, got to come visit for a short amount of time today. I love to see other people admiring my boys. Annette and I have reversed roles now as it was just 4 short years ago that I was visiting her twins in the hospital while she looked on as the proud Momma. Now, it is my turn to be the proud one. Visitors are very limited due to the H1N1 season but, she is one of the lucky ones. :)

The boys have both lost a few ounces which is normal at this stage. Good thing they were the size they were to start with! I have started producing enough nourishment for them that they receive via a feeding tube in their noses. I will get to attempt feeding them myself on Friday or Saturday.

Healthwise, the boys are right on track for all things that can be considered in the "normal" range for male preemies. Both boys do have small heart murmurs. They should outgrow it within a couple of days and if either of them doesn't, an ultrasound will be ordered to confirm what the neonatalogist hears. She said she is confident, and can almost guarantee, that they are perfectly healthy little ones. In fact, I have only talked to this doctor on the phone but, I did request an in person meeting with her so Randy and I could both talk with her. She said that was fine but, that it would have to be an afternoon because in the morning she does rounds with the little ones who need her the most and ours are two of the healthiest ones there so, she doesn't get to us until the afternoon. (unless the nurses contact her)

The boys did get put under the "billy" lights today due to a small bit of jaundice. Again, perfectly normal for this gestational age. The lights help produce an enzyme, I think is what the doc said, that helps the babies jaundice go away via their urine. Gavin spread his arms and legs like he was suntanning. Griffin enjoyed it too. They look like they should have a drink in hand and be beachside. We will post pictures of that too.

For now, I will sign off. I need to fill out paperwork for their birth certificates, insurance etc. and then take a little snooze hopefully. Sleep has been hard to come by with this new schedule we are on. So far, adrenaline and my pure amazement at this whole process have kept me going.

Happy Tuesday to all.
