The rest of the story

We had names picked out for both boys but, we wanted to see them more before deciding which name to assign to which baby.

All day Sunday, I couldn't sleep I was running on pure adrenaline. I couldn't wait to meet my babies. (Since I had a c-section and they had to go to the NICU, I didn't get to hold them or see them further for several hours)

Annette accompanied me into the recovery room while Randy went to the NICU and got the babies registered.

The next several hours were a whirlwind and a blur and we haven't slowed down.

Both babies are doing great. Momma is doing great albeit a little tired. Daddy is doing great also but, he too is a little tired.

The babies had to go to the NICU to make sure they could breathe OK since they are early and they didn't get the steroid shots. They were on two different kinds of breathing machines to assist them so they didn't have to work so hard to breathe. Today's chest x-ray showed significant improvements in both boys lung lining so they were taken off of any breathing assistance. In the next few days they will get moved to a step-down unit providing they stay the way they were when we left them tonight.
The step-down is called a Special Care Nursery located at our hospital.

We got to hold our babies for the first time today. It was surreal to think that we have been waiting for 4+ years to hold our little miracles and today was the big day. I held Gavin first while Griffin needed a little more down time after removing some of his IV's. As I kissed Gavin for the first time, I couldn't help but be overwhelmed and I just cried. He is absolutely perfect as is his little brother. After awhile Randy got to hold Griffin. After Randy and Griffin bonded, I took over holding/meeting Griffin and Randy went to hold Gavin. We each sat with one and held them, loved them and looked across the room at one another with joy in our hearts and babies in our arms. I couldn't be more content and know that I would fight this fight again, to have these two little miracles in my life.

To all of you that have supported us on this long journey. We can't thank you enough and we can't wait to introduce our sons to you.

We will continue to update the blog as we have time but, please understand, while we are in the hospital, it is a really busy time as I need to rest and heal from my surgery, we need to bond as a family and I need to continue to try and nourish my babies. The nurses keep busy with me and in the down time I hop in a wheelchair and Randy pushes me to the NICU to see our sons. Before you know it, the day is over and we are pooped but, ready to do it all over again the next morning.

(P.S. The boys will be in the hospital for about 3 weeks if all continues to go as well. Due to the H1N1 and the fact that they are preemies, visitors are very limited to a certain number and Randy and I count towards that number.)
