That night, I was playing a game on the computer while Randy got a cleaning bug. He cleaned the upstairs of our house when normally he would sit next to me and relax. I started having my usual evening contractions but, this time they were accompanied by some cramping and back pains. Both of which I have had in the past couple of weeks, randomly, in addition to the contractions. I knew to go to the bathroom, get some water and go lay down. (A routine I had done many times before) The contractions went away so after about a half hour, I went back out to the couch and got back on the laptop while Randy continued to clean. I talked to both my mom and my dad on the phone and had no indication that the next time I would talk to both, my babies would be here! After hanging up with my dad, I started to have contractions again. Something in me told me to time these ones. Again, I went to the bathroom, got water and laid down. Randy laid next to me. As I continued to time the contractions, Randy asked me if I thought we should call the doctor. Since I wasn't really experiencing anything out of the ordinary I told him no we should wait. (for some reason I felt guilty about calling a doctor after 10pm even though they are on call and get paid for this)
After awhile I started to question if we should call also. I was extremely tired and thought I didn't want to call because then I would have to go be assessed, following protocol for my gestational weeks. Since I wasn't having the "I-can't-talk-I-just-want-to-scream" kind of contractions, I thought we were fine and maybe being nervous first timers. Finally I relented and called the doctor. Coincidentally, my OB was the on-call doctor. I was so relieved because she had just checked me on Tuesday so she would maybe let me stay home and go to sleep after hearing and calming my concerns.....not so much. She said she wanted us in right away.
